Photography Basics: Understanding Your Camera to Take Better Photos Everyday | Chicago, IL

Happy February, friends! It’s hard to believe we’re two months into 2015 already. How are those New Year’s goals looking? I’ve managed to stick to some of mine, and there are others I’ve let fall to the side. But as I look at my year and who I want to be at the end of it, I’m inspired and committed to start fresh on my creative endeavors. It’s really the perfect time to re-evaluate what you want out of this year and start taking action on those resolutions you made.

What are your creative goals this year? Has photography made the list? Maybe you opened a shiny new SLR this holiday season, the one you just knew would be a game changer for you. An hour later, after flipping through the manual and trying to navigate the internal menus, your vision to be the go-to photographer this year seemed a bit more daunting. You think that maybe you’ll just stick to iPhone photos for now. I’ve been there. We all have. And no matter how many YouTube videos we watch, sometimes we just really need a quick lesson in person where someone can help us troubleshoot.

After teaching basic digital photography for two years at the Chicago Botanic Garden, I’m so excited to announce a new educational series I am offering independently.

Photography Coaching

Maybe you’re hung up on another issue or you have a different set of goals. Perhaps you’ve been at it for awhile, even taken a few photography classes. You understand the general concepts, but you’re having difficulty getting the kinds of images you really want. Or you may be to the point of technical proficiency, but you really need someone to critique your work and help you take it to the next level.

That’s where photo coaching comes in. I’m a strong believer in this model. I’ve been at this for 9 years, and I have my own business coach as well as a photography mentor. Sometimes I can’t see where I’m stuck or what I need to be doing differently to get better results. With photo coaching, we create a one-on-one session focusing on the photography skill you want to work on. We go at your pace and take the time to address all your lingering questions.

Whatever your photography goals are for 2015, I’d love to help! You  may reach out via email to or register for the first class above. I look forward to connecting with you.
